THE MARKET ON MAIN (AMOM) STORY:
The Akron Business Education Department (Mrs. Saeli), and a group of students are working with Brian and Jayne Perry and Trish Yambor (store manager) in a joint venture for a new storefront (formerly Mike and Rosies) that the Perry’s purchased in November 2017.
Brian and Jayne Perry purchased Mike and Rosie’s Country Market after the previous owners decided to retire and there were no buyers. Mr. Perry did not want to see a vacant storefront on Main Street in Akron. His vision is to support local entrepreneurs and the school district by selling items created by local artisans and having the profit from the business support the school district in scholarships.
The team approached Mr. Joe Lucenti, the now-retired principal of Akron High School, about a partnership between the business and the school to use the store to teach students how to run and maintain a business. The students have renamed the business to Akron Market on Main, created a new logo and slogan. The students shared that coming into the store is a different experience every time because of the new products being offered and because many of the items sold in the store are created by local artisans and entrepreneurs; it feels like all the great things in Akron in one place.
