The Market on Main Story
The Akron Business Education Department (Mrs. Saeli), Art Department (Ms. Cornell), Library Media Center (Mrs. Penn), and a group of students are working with Brian and Jayne Perry and Trish Yambor (store manager) in a joint venture for a new store front that the Perry’s purchased in November 2017.
Brian and Jayne Perry purchased Mike and Rosie’s Country Market after the previous owners decided to retire and there were no buyers. Mr. Perry did not want to see a vacant store front on Main Street in Akron. His vision is to support local entrepreneurs and the school district by selling items created by local artisans and having the profit from the business support the school district.
The team approached Mr. Joe Lucenti, Akron High School Principal about a partnership between the business and the school to use the store to teach students how to run a business. The students have renamed the business to Akron Market on Main, created a new logo and the slogan Experience Home. The students shared that coming into the store is a different experience every time because of the new products being offered and because many of the items sold in the store are created by local artisans and entrepreneurs; it feels like all the great things in Akron in one place.
